NovaGlimpseYou sent it.
They opened it.
NovaGlimpse is a Chrome extension for Gmail. Send as usual, and it tells you when the recipient opens your message: a count on the toolbar icon, and a list of what was opened, when, and how many times. No account, nothing to set up.
Sent is not read.
Version one is Gmail in Chrome. It doesn't change how you write or send. It adds one thing: knowing whether the email landed with a person.
A pixel, not a plugin
Each email you send gets an invisible one-pixel image with a random code. When the recipient's mail client loads it, the open is recorded. Gmail itself is untouched.
A count on the toolbar
The icon shows how many new opens there are since you last looked. Click it and the list opens, newest first.
When, and how many times
Each email shows Opened with how long ago, and a counter if it was opened more than once. New opens stay marked until you've seen them.
Opened, waiting, or all
Filter the list to what has been opened or what is still waiting. Clear read removes the ones you're done with.
Your own views don't count
Open one of your sent emails in Gmail and NovaGlimpse recognizes its pixel, blanks it, and discounts the view.
Light or dark
Follows your system theme, or pick one yourself. Opens are checked about once a minute, and there's a refresh for right now.
Your email details never leave this computer.
NovaGlimpse doesn't sign in to your Google account and doesn't use the Gmail API. It works inside the Gmail tab you already have open. The only thing that reaches our server is a random code and the time it was loaded.
On this computer
Subjects, recipient addresses, send times and open history are kept in this browser's local storage. Not synced, not uploaded, and deleted when you uninstall.
On the server
A random tracking code and the time it was loaded. Nothing else. On its own it doesn't identify you or your recipient.
Never collected
Email addresses, names, subjects, message content, IP addresses or device details. No accounts, no analytics, no ads.
Removal
Uninstall the extension and everything it kept on this computer goes with it.
A strong signal, not a receipt.
Opened means the pixel was fetched. That is usually a person reading, but not always, and we'd rather you knew the edges.
Images
Images must load
If the recipient blocks remote images, no open is recorded, even if they read every word.
Proxies
Some apps open automatically
Apple Mail and some security scanners load images on delivery, which can show Opened before anyone reads it.
Devices
Your own phone counts
Viewing your sent mail on a phone, or in a browser without the extension, registers as an open.
Tracking pixels are subject to privacy rules such as GDPR, ePrivacy and CAN-SPAM, depending on where you and your recipients are. Use it with people you'd be comfortable telling.
Free. For Gmail in Chrome.
